PoE, A DIGITAL EXTENSION OF ARCHITECTURAL AND ENGINEERING EVOLUTION: 

AN OVERVIEW OF TENTATIVE APPLICATIONS ON FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS

Abstract: 
As there is a constant search for advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, society now lives through the lens of technology, advancing applications to better serve occupants and to better protect lives, properties and function critical equipment and operations; a paramount of fire protection engineers. In this case, a multi-criteria approach has been taken to develop wide-ranging guides when considering Power over Ethernet (PoE) technologies on fire alarm systems. Technical provisions from multiple Standards are used to evaluate a diverse spectrum of possibilities, and a few case scenarios are discussed.

Bio: Ernesto Vega Janica

IEEE Senior Member with 20 years of experience in engineering, standards development and value add products. Recognized as the 2017 Fire Protection Engineer of the Year by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), New Jersey Chapter; and awarded the 2011 Tyco Patent Prize as the author of a patent application on visual fire alarm notification devices, Mr. Vega Janica is the author of multiple technical papers and international presentations in the field of engineering, as well as in applications of optimization models. Vega Janica, a graduate alumni of the University of Maryland, is also a mathematics enthusiast. His research on multiple numerical systems has involved him in humanitarian and STEM efforts. Mr. Vega Janica is also an instructor of international standards.
